EU earmarks 100 bln euros for Ukraine in 2028-2034 budget

BRUSSELS. July 16 (Interfax) - The European Commission has earmarked 100 billion euros for Ukraine in the European Union's new multiannual financial framework (budget) for 2028-2034 under the EU enlargement expenditures, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said.

"We are setting aside 100 billion euros for Ukraine. You know we have the Ukraine Facility for reconstruction. It was initially with the mid-term review filled with 50 billion [euros]. These are slowly but surely going down in the amounts, and therefore we are suggesting 100 billion euros to fill up again the Ukraine Faculty Facility to support recovery, resilience and of course their path to EU membership," von der Leyen said while presenting the EU's multiannual budget at a press conference in Brussels on Wednesday.

The European Commission's commentary for the document also says, "Support for Ukraine will benefit from a degree of flexibility given the magnitude and unpredictability of the needs. Support for operations with military aspects will continue to be covered by the European Peace Facility."

The 2028-2034 multiannual financial framework proposed by the European Commission amounts to nearly 2 trillion euros.
