Russia ready for equal dialogue with Europe - Security Council secretary

MOSCOW. July 16 (Interfax) - There are prospects for the resumption of dialogue between Russia and Europe, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu said.

"Of course, there is," Shoigu said in an interview with the Kommersant newspaper in reply to a relevant question.

"We all see how the number of Europeans who doubt the correctness of Brussels' course towards unconditional confrontation with Russia is growing. At the same time, such sentiments are suppressed harshly. Let's recall at least the recent scandal surrounding the elections in Romania," Shoigu said.

"However, the longer the EU disregards the interests of its own citizens and worsens their well-being under the pretext of the 'Russian threat,' the more difficult it will be for them to silence the voices of those who seek mutually beneficial cooperation with Russia and peaceful coexistence with our country," Shoigu said.

Guided by this principle, Russian President Vladimir Putin put forward a concept of forming the Eurasian security architecture last year, he said.

"We are ready for an equal dialogue with Europe," Shoigu said. "It is up to them to decide which tactics will be chosen in European capitals," he said.
