MOSCOW. July 16 (Interfax) - Moscow prosecutors have opened a criminal case against journalist Timur Olevsky, news editor-in-chief at The Insider, for participation in the activities of an organization recognized as unwelcome in Russia.
"It was established during a probe that Timur Olevsky, having been subjected to administrative liability [...] for participation in the activities of the foreign organization The Insider, whose activities have been recognized as unwelcome on the territory of the Russian Federation, being outside of the Russian Federation, continues participating in the activities of the said organization in the capacity of editor-in-chief," prosecutors said.
According to the prosecutors' information, Olevsky was involved in the publication of three videos "whose content is aimed at promoting anti-Russian rhetoric, formation of a negative public opinion on the domestic and foreign policies of the Russian Federation, and also discrediting bodies of state authority."
A criminal case was opened against Olevsky based on the materials of the probe for engaging in the activities of a foreign organization whose activities have been recognized as unwelcome on the territory of the Russian Federation.
The Russian Justice Ministry included the Latvian legal entity The Insider SIA, registered in Riga on June 26, 2015, the administrator of the domain name of the online media outlet The Insider, in the register of foreign agent media outlets in 2021.
The Russian Prosecutor General's Office recognized the activities of the media outlet as unwelcome in Russia in summer 2022.
