YEREVAN. July 16 (Interfax) - Armenia wants to be an EU member, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.
"Our European colleagues are asking whether the law on starting the EU accession process, which has been adopted in Armenia, means that Armenia wants to be an EU member. My answer is yes, Armenia wants to be an EU member," Pashinyan said at a press conference on Wednesday.
The Armenian and European sides discussed the issue and agreed that the process would not be easy, he said.
"First of all, that would require consent of all EU members and, secondly, the country needs to meet EU standards," Pashinyan said.
Armenia has an ambitious strategy and reform program, he said.
"The strategy will be carried out one way or another. We will continue the reforms to the point when Armenia objectively meets the EU standards and has two options of either being admitted to the EU or not. Even if it's not, Armenia will be a state compliant with EU standards then," Pashinyan said.
"I think Armenia will become an EU member in 20 years," he said.
