Control over Novokhatskoye in DPR opens Russian forces way to another part of Dnepropetrovsk region's border - Russian Defense Ministry

MOSCOW. July 16 (Interfax) - Gaining control over Novokhatskoye, Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), has given Russian forces access to another part of the Dnepropetrovsk region's border, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Wednesday.

During military action, assault units of the eastern group of forces took positions in the settlement and drove Ukrainian forces out, thus "opening up the way to another part of the border of the republic [DPR] with the Dnepropetrovsk region," the ministry said in a statement.

Control over Novokhatskoye was established by servicemen from the 36th guard motorized infantry brigade of the eastern group of forces, the ministry said.

"Having mopped up the buildings and constructions, the servicemen unfolded Russian flags and engineering groups started clearing the area and the adjacent territory of mines," the ministry said.

The Russian Defense Ministry said earlier on Wednesday that the eastern group of forces established control over the settlement of Novokhatskoye in the DPR. Group units are advancing, improving their tactical positions in the southern Donetsk sector, the ministry said.
